UN rights chief visits E. Timor<\/p>\n
EAST TIMOR: The top UN human rights official on Saturday visited
\nthe scene of a church massacre in East Timor in 1999, as local
\nresidents demonstrated for a special war crimes tribunal to
\nprosecute the Indonesian officers allegedly responsible for the
\nkillings.<\/p>\n
On a three-day visit to East Timor, Mary Robinson again voiced
\ncriticism over last week's acquittal of six Indonesian officers
\ncharged with allowing the Suai massacre and four others in 1999
\nafter the half-island voted to break from Indonesia in a UN-
\nsponsored referendum.<\/p>\n
\"They have failed to carry out justice for those responsible
\nfor crimes against humanity in 1999,\" Robinson said outside the
\nAve Maria Church where twenty-seven people were killed, including
\nthree priests.<\/p>\n
In the past, Dili has said it trusted Indonesian courts would
\ndeliver justice to those accused of inciting the violence. --AP<\/p>",
