Edem Wosornu, director of operations and advocacy at\nOCHA, said the figures showed the toll despite overall higher estimates\nin the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan, Ukraine, the occupied\nPalestinian territories, and elsewhere. In a related statement released\non Wednesday, leaders of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee highlighted\nincreasing, and brazen, violations of international humanitarian law and\nhuman rights across conflicts worldwide. \u201cIn various conflicts,\ncivilians, including children, are killed, injured and displaced on a\ntroubling scale,\u201d they said. \u201cSexual violence is used as a tactic of\nwar, disproportionately affecting women and girls and destroying lives.\nHomes, schools, places of worship, hospitals, including maternity wards,\nare destroyed or damaged, as are civilian infrastructure and assets such\nas water systems, transport networks, markets and food production.\u201d The\nleaders warned that famine and food insecurity resulting from conflict\nare spreading, often linked to siege tactics and deliberate attempts to\nstarve civilians.
