        "content": "<p>UN official calls for tribunal<\/p>\n<p>DILI (AP): A top UN official in East Timor urged on Friday the<br>\ninternational community to set up a war crimes tribunal if<br>\nIndonesia fails to prosecute those responsible for atrocities<br>\ncommitted after the territory voted for independence in 1999.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Galbraith, political affairs minister in the UN<br>\nadministration in East Timor, said he had &quot;seen very little<br>\nevidence&quot; that Indonesia was serious in its efforts to bring to<br>\ntrial those responsible for the violence.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;If there is no progress toward bringing to justice the people<br>\nresponsible for the crimes ... there should be an international<br>\nwar crimes tribunal,&quot; Galbraith, a former U.S. ambassador to<br>\nCroatia, told journalists in East Timor&apos;s capital, Dili.<\/p>\n<p>Galbraith said the world had already waited two years for<br>\nIndonesia to prosecute those responsible. However, little had<br>\nhappened.<\/p>\n<p>His call for international action is the highest yet from a<br>\nserving UN official. Until now, UN workers in East Timor, and at<br>\nthe world body&apos;s headquarters in New York, have said Indonesia<br>\nshould be allowed to prosecute the perpetrators of the violence<br>\nitself, before an international court is considered.<\/p>",
