UN\/New York (ANTARA) - UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said on\nWednesday (25\/2) that the UN is looking forward to the next round of\ntalks between the United States and Iran regarding Tehran\u2019s nuclear\nprogramme in Geneva on 26 February.<\/p>\n
\u201cRegarding Iran, we would like to see de-escalation. And we, I think\nlike everyone, are looking forward to the talks scheduled to be held in\nGeneva tomorrow,\u201d Dujarric told reporters.<\/p>\n
Previously, US President Donald Trump said in his State of the Union\naddress to Congress on Tuesday (24\/2) that he prefers diplomacy with\nIran, but has not heard any \u201cspecific statement\u201d from Tehran that they\nwill never possess nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n
On the same day, hours before Trump\u2019s speech, Iranian Foreign\nMinister Abbas Araghchi reaffirmed that Iran \u201cwill never develop nuclear\nweapons under any circumstances,\u201d and will also never give up \u201cits right\nto benefit from peaceful nuclear technology\u201d for its people.<\/p>\n
On Sunday (22\/2), Oman\u2019s Foreign Minister, Badr Albusaidi, whose\ncountry is acting as a mediator, announced that Geneva would host the\nnext round of talks between the US and Iran on 26 February.<\/p>\n
The US delegation will be led by presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and\nTrump\u2019s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, while Iran will be represented by\nAraghchi.<\/p>\n
