Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) has suspended a lecturer\nfrom its Pharmacy programme following allegations of sexual harassment\nagainst female students. The case went viral on social media after an\naccount on Threads, silentscrm, posted three screenshots of WhatsApp\nconversations containing inappropriate messages from the lecturer to the\nstudents, claiming the screenshots came from three different\nvictims.<\/p>\n
Rector of UMY, Prof Achmad Nurmandi, stated in an official release\nthat the university had received and reviewed the circulating\ninformation. UMY proactively launched a thorough investigation involving\nthe university\u2019s Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence\nin Higher Education (Satgas PPKPT). On Saturday (11\/7), the Pharmacy\nprogramme, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK), and the\nuniversity\u2019s PPKPT task force conducted tracing, examination, and\nidentification of parties suspected of involvement or possessing\ninformation about the incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cBased on the examination results and initial recommendations from\nthe Pharmacy Study Programme, FKIK, and the UMY PPKPT Task Force, the\nuniversity has temporarily suspended the lecturer in question from all\nacademic and non-academic duties,\u201d Nurmandi stated on Sunday (12\/7). The\ntemporary suspension will remain in effect until the investigation\nprocess is completed and a further decision is issued by the university\nin accordance with applicable regulations.<\/p>\n
Nurmandi added that the investigation team will also examine the\npossibility of other related or similar cases that may not have been\nreported, ensuring no information or issues are overlooked. UMY is\ncommitted to providing support, protection, and psychological assistance\nto the victims and those who have provided information.
