        "content": "<p>Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - A hospital management expert from Universitas\nMuhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Qurratul Aini, has assessed that the\naddition of health infrastructure, such as cath labs, must go hand in\nhand with the strengthening of human resources and service systems so\nthat the investment has an impact on patient safety. The statement was\nmade in response to the challenge of equitable heart care services in\nIndonesia. Based on data from the Ministry of Health, Indonesia\ncurrently faces a deficit of approximately 5,162 cardiologists from a\ntotal requirement of 6,801 doctors, with around 63.8 percent still\nconcentrated on Java Island. Aini, speaking in Yogyakarta on Wednesday,\nsaid the phenomenon shows a gap between infrastructure development and\nservice system readiness. Referring to Avedis Donabedian\u2019s concept of\nhealthcare quality, the existence of a cardiac catheterization\nlaboratory (cath lab) is a structural aspect that will not produce\noptimal outcomes without the support of competent health workers and an\neffective service system. She explained that from an asset management\nperspective, a cath lab installed without ready-to-use personnel risks\nbecoming an idle asset. The investment value of the equipment is very\nlarge, but its contribution to patient safety becomes nil if it cannot\nbe operated optimally. Furthermore, cath lab services require a\ncomprehensive multidisciplinary team. In addition to cardiologists,\nhospitals need certified cardiovascular nurses, radiographers,\ncardiovascular technicians, anaesthetists and anaesthetic nurses,\nelectromedical technicians, clinical pharmacists, and medical\nrehabilitation personnel, as well as supporting facilities such as an\nIntensive Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU) or Intensive Cardiovascular Care Unit\n(ICVCU). Aini added that the biggest challenge at present is not merely\nthe limited number of cardiologists, but the low utilisation rate of\nfacilities due to the lack of an adequate service ecosystem. Hospitals\nthat rely on only one cardiologist often face operational constraints\nwhen the doctor is on leave, unavailable, or experiencing fatigue, which\ncan potentially trigger issues with medical staff retention. \u201cBuilding\nheart care services is not just about installing equipment, but also\nabout building a human resource ecosystem and governance capable of\nensuring services run sustainably,\u201d emphasised the lecturer from UMY\u2019s\nMaster of Hospital Administration programme. She stated that the success\nof equitable health service distribution in Indonesia is not measured\nsolely by the increase in installed cath lab facilities, but by the\nability of hospitals to provide quality services that are accessible to\nthe public on a sustainable basis. \u201cThe main thing is quality services\nthat can be accessed sustainably by the community,\u201d she said.<\/p>",
