Students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) who possess\nbusiness ideas or startup ventures can receive support from the\nuniversity. UMY is preparing funding as well as incubation programmes to\nassist students in developing their businesses.<\/p>\n
The Secretary of UMY, Dr Bachtiar Dwi Kurniawan, stated that the\ncampus operates the Business Incubation Centre (SEBI), which serves as a\nplatform for student business development. \u201cWe have indeed allocated a\nspecial budget for business incubation ventures and for startups\ninitiated by students,\u201d Bachtiar said when contacted on Friday\n(21\/08\/2026).<\/p>\n
The programme begins by inventorying the entrepreneurial potential of\nstudents. Following this, students are required to draft business\nproposals to be submitted to the university. \u201cFirst, from an educational\nperspective, we have courses within our curriculum focused on\nentrepreneurship,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cSecondly, we inventory the entrepreneurial potential of our\nstudents. We collect that data, after which they create proposals and\napply for funding from us, which we then provide,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
Beyond mere funding, Bachtarr noted that UMY also provides space for\nstudents to showcase their products through various entrepreneurship\nexpos. These expos serve as a way to connect student products with\nexternal parties, including companies or industries that could\npotentially assist in business development.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe provide showcases. If external parties become interested, it will\ncertainly attract companies to mass-produce, distribute, and market the\nproducts,\u201d he clarified.<\/p>\n
UMY\u2019s entrepreneurship programme does not only target students.\nBachtiar mentioned that the concept is applied through community service\nvia \u2018KKN entrepreneur\u2019 (Student Community Service) and faculty-led\ninitiatives. \u201cCommunity assistance is provided for various business\nsectors, ranging from agriculture and livestock to processed goods,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
In addition to student-led community service, Bachtiar noted that UMY\nlecturers are also involved in the development of local MSMEs (Micro,\nSmall, and Medium Enterprises). \u201cFaculty service includes many clusters\nrelated to assisting community MSME entrepreneurs,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
