UK colleges offer help amid crisis<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): At least 33 British universities and colleges
\nare offering help to Indonesian students intending to study
\noverseas on how to beat the monetary crisis, a British Council
\nexecutive said yesterday.<\/p>\n
Geoff Evans, senior consultant for education and training,
\nsaid a delegation of the 33 education institutions was scheduled
\nto arrive in Indonesia next month to explain about study in
\nEngland.<\/p>\n
\"The explanation is aimed to help new students avoid any
\nproblems caused by the current crisis,\" Evans said in a
\nstatement.<\/p>\n
He said the help offered by the universities and colleges
\nincluded ways to facilitate tuition payments, by paying in
\ninstallments, and details of low-cost accommodation and
\nscholarships.<\/p>\n
The University of Nottingham, for example, will offer a
\npackage of aid worth US$1 million to help students from countries
\nfacing the monetary crisis, he said.<\/p>\n
Heriot-Watt University decided not to increase its tuition
\nfees for Indonesian students, while the University of Aberdeen
\nwill be offering discounts on its tuition fees, the statement
\ncontinued.<\/p>\n
\"We strive to help the students and new students to finish
\ntheir studies amid the crisis,\" Patrick O'Forrel of Heriot-Watt
\nUniversity said.<\/p>\n
The statement said other universities which were also offering
\nhelp to existing and new students included Warwick, Birmingham
\nand Hertfordshire.<\/p>\n
The delegation of the British education institutions is also
\nto hold an education exhibition in Surabaya, Jakarta, Bandung and
