Jakarta (ANTARA) \u2013 UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta received the Best\nEducational Institution Supporting Zakat award at the 2026 Grand Baznas\nAwards, held as part of the 2026 Baznas National Coordination Meeting in\nJakarta.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe award is both recognition and a responsibility for us to\ncontinue strengthening the role of universities in supporting zakat\nmanagement that is productive, transparent and has a tangible impact on\ncommunities,\u201d UIN Jakarta Rector Asep Saepudin Jahar said in a statement\nin Jakarta on Friday.<\/p>\n
UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta was selected alongside four other\nuniversities: Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Sebelas Maret University\n(UNS), Padjadjaran University (Unpad) and UIN Mahmud Yunus\nBatusangkar.<\/p>\n
Asep said the award would motivate UIN Jakarta to continue\nstrengthening its support for zakat management and expand universities\u2019\ncontribution to community empowerment.<\/p>\n
He said zakat had strategic potential beyond fulfilling a religious\nobligation: it could also help improve welfare, strengthen economic\nself-reliance and broaden access to education.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope zakat will not only serve as a means of collecting and\ndistributing funds, but also promote sustainable community empowerment,\nincrease economic independence and expand opportunities for people in\nneed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Rector Asep said he hoped cooperation between universities and Baznas\ncould continue to develop through education, research, innovation and\ncommunity service. This would enable universities\u2019 academic and\nscientific expertise to support zakat programmes that are better\ntargeted and more widely beneficial.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want support for zakat to grow stronger, both by improving zakat\nliteracy among the academic community and by developing partnerships\nthat deliver measurable, sustainable community empowerment programmes,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n
UIN Jakarta Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Ahmad Tholabi said\nuniversities had an important role in building zakat literacy through\neducation and the development of knowledge.<\/p>\n
UIN Jakarta is also encouraging the use of research findings to\nsupport effective zakat management with a meaningful impact. For this\nreason, cooperation between the university, Baznas and various\nstakeholders needs to be strengthened, he said.<\/p>\n
