UI wins contest on mock criminal trial<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A team from the University of Indonesia (UI) won
\non Friday a mock criminal trial contest held by the School of Law
\nof the Atma Jaya Catholic University.<\/p>\n
The UI team defeated four other teams from the Universities of
\nTrisakti, Pancasila, Tarumanagara and Atma Jaya.<\/p>\n
The event organizer, Antonius P.S. Wibowo, told The Jakarta
\nPost that each contestant was given one hour to present a mock
\ncriminal court proceeding, from the opening of the hearing until
\nthe judges' verdict.<\/p>\n
Antonius said teams chose one of two established trial cases,
\neither a psychotropic drug case or a counterfeit money case.<\/p>\n
Tarumanagara University, Pancasila University and Trisakti
\nUniversity chose to present the psychotropic case trial, while UI
\nand Atma Jaya picked the counterfeit money trial.<\/p>\n
The jurists for the contest included Moerino, a justice of the
\nSupreme Court, Tobina Lan Siahaan from the Attorney General's
\nOffice and Said Damanik, a lawyer.<\/p>\n
Antonius said the committee initially planned to invite at
\nleast 20 contestants, but due to limited funds, they could only
\nafford five teams.<\/p>\n
As the winner, UI took home the Minister of Justice trophy,
\nwhile runner-up Atma Jaya University, got the rector's trophy and
\nthird runner-up, Tarumanagara University, received the trophy of
\nthe Atma Jaya University's dean of School of Law.<\/p>\n
Besides trophies, all winners also received certificates for
\ntheir participation in the contest. (01)<\/p>",
