UI student trial continues<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Two students of University of Indonesia told a
\ncourt here on Tuesday that they had been beaten for removing
\nanother student's car without the owner's consent.<\/p>\n
Erlangga, one of the seven students allegedly beaten by
\nsuspect Rifardi Rifiar on Oct. 26 last year, told the Central
\nJakarta district court in his capacity as a witness that Rifardi
\nordered all seven first-year students who had removed his car to
\nline up in front of Rifardi.<\/p>\n
\"After a spot of verbal abuse, Rifardi hit us, one by one,
\ndown the line,\" Erlangga said.<\/p>\n
The seven first-year medical students at the University of
\nIndonesia had lifted up Rifardi's car to play basketball -- it
\nwas parked on the basketball court.<\/p>\n
Suspect Rifardi was suspended from the university in November
\nlast year. He is now filing a suit against the university rector
\nat the Jakarta State Administrative Court.<\/p>\n
Because Rifardi is his senior, the first-year students
\napologized and did not think to hit Rifardi back, Erlangga added.<\/p>\n
Rifardi, however, denied that he had beaten up the students
\nclaiming that he had only pushed them around a little for
\nremoving his car without permission.<\/p>\n
Erlangga also told the court that Rifardi had visited him with
\nhis mother in tow and asked to be forgiven for hitting him. (14)<\/p>",
