        "content": "<p>Depok (ANTARA) - The Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Indonesia\n(FTUI) has successfully introduced the X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy\n(XPS) instrument as part of efforts to strengthen its flagship research\ncapacity.<\/p>\n<p>With this facility, FTUI becomes one of only three institutions in\nIndonesia possessing XPS technology, alongside Universitas Diponegoro\nand the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).<\/p>\n<p>FTUI Dean Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, speaking at the UI Depok campus on\nWednesday, stated that the introduction of the advanced XPS instrument\nrepresents a strategic step in strengthening FTUI\u2019s research\necosystem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis facility not only enhances the depth and quality of research in\nmaterials and energy but also opens up broader collaboration\nopportunities with industry and academic partners, both nationally and\nglobally,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>The XPS instrument will be operated in the Analytical Laboratory,\nwhich is part of the Energy Transition Laboratory (ETL).<\/p>\n<p>XPS is an instrument based on the photoelectric effect used to\nanalyse elemental composition, chemical states, and electronic structure\non material surfaces.<\/p>\n<p>Utilising X-ray radiation, the instrument measures the energy of\nemitted electrons to identify the unique characteristics of each\nelement.<\/p>\n<p>XPS\u2019s ability to penetrate depths of several nanometres makes it an\nessential tool for testing various types of materials, from metals and\nsemiconductors to polymers, nanomaterials, and catalysts. This is highly\nrelevant for supporting research and development in renewable new\nenergy, future electronic devices, and other advanced material\ninnovations.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the presence of XPS also provides tangible benefits to\nthe wider community through its contributions to the development of\neveryday technologies.<\/p>\n<p>In-depth material analysis enables improvements in battery quality\nfor electric vehicles and energy storage systems, the development of\nmore efficient and durable electronic devices, and innovations in\nenvironmentally friendly materials for waste processing and pollution\ncontrol.<\/p>\n<p>Head of the ETL Laboratory, Dr Hasbi Priadi, revealed that the\nexistence of XPS will serve as a catalyst for FTUI\u2019s flagship research\nas well as a technology-based solution for industry needs, particularly\nin precise and comprehensive surface chemical analysis.<\/p>\n<p>The introduction of XPS marks an important milestone for UI in\nbuilding an excellent and innovative research ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>This instrument is expected to accelerate UI\u2019s position as the top\nengineering campus in the country, reinforcing the role of higher\neducation in supporting energy transformation, material innovation, and\nstrengthening national competitiveness at the international level.<\/p>",
