        "content": "<p>Depok (ANTARA) - The Faculty of Medicine at the University of\nIndonesia (FKUI) is continuing to develop research that could offer a\nsolution for treating diabetic foot wounds, using collagen to speed up\nthe healing process.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Meiliati Aminyoto, a lecturer at FKUI, said in Depok on Thursday\nthat the research found collagen supplementation has the potential to\nhelp accelerate the healing of diabetic foot ulcers as an adjunct\ntherapy to standard treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Meiliati studied the benefits of collagen in supporting the wound\nhealing process in diabetic patients.<\/p>\n<p>The study involved 69 patients with diabetic foot ulcers. The results\nshowed that patients who consumed 10 grams of hydrolysed collagen every\nday for 21 days experienced better wound healing compared to patients\nwho received only standard therapy.<\/p>\n<p>Collagen administration also increased serum albumin levels, a\nprotein that plays a role in the formation of new tissue, and showed a\ntendency towards reduced inflammatory processes that support wound\nhealing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCollagen is easily absorbed by the body and rich in amino acids for\nrepairing damaged tissue. In addition to helping the formation of new\ntissue, collagen creates better conditions for the wound healing\nprocess. Because the raw material is relatively easy to obtain, this\ntype of protein has the potential to be developed as a more affordable\nadjunct therapy,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Although further research on a wider population is still needed to\nconfirm its long-term benefits, the results of this study represent a\npromising first step in developing more effective, safe and accessible\ntherapies for people with diabetes.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Dean for Resources, Venture and General Administration at\nFKUI, Prof Neng Tine Kartinah, expressed her appreciation for Dr\nMeiliati\u2019s academic achievement.<\/p>\n<p>She noted that the research makes an important contribution to the\ndevelopment of clinical nutrition science and healthcare services.<\/p>\n<p>The findings on the benefits of collagen as an adjunct therapy open\nup opportunities for developing more effective, safe and affordable\ntreatment for diabetic patients.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope this research continues to be developed so that it can bring\nwider benefits to improving the quality of healthcare services and the\nquality of life of patients in Indonesia,\u201d said Prof Neng Tine.<\/p>",
