        "content": "<p>The United States and Iran have officially signed a Memorandum of\nUnderstanding (MoU), establishing a foundation for both nations to\ncontinue diplomatic processes and discuss various strategic issues that\nhave long been sources of tension.<\/p>\n<p>The Chair of the US Regional Studies Centre at the University of\nIndonesia (UI), Suzie Sudarman, believes the agreement has the potential\nto ease the conflict that has been overshadowing the Middle East region.\nAccording to her, the primary focus currently lies on the possibility of\nreopening the Strait of Hormuz, which serves as a vital route for global\nenergy trade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is clear that everyone is waiting for the reopening of the Strait\nof Hormuz. Israel has been left behind by President Trump and is unable\nto function alone without him,\u201d Suzie stated when contacted by Media\nIndonesia on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>She assessed that Iran has obtained the interests it has long desired\nthrough this agreement. On the other as well, both countries have the\nopportunity to claim their respective diplomatic successes. \u201cIran\nobtains what it needs, and both countries can declare victory,\u201d she\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding which party stands to benefit or lose most from the MoU\u2014in\nterms of geopolitics, regional security, and global economic\ninterests\u2014Suzie believes both the US and Iran stand to gain. \u201cWhile both\nthe US and Iran obtain what they want, Israel is the one being cast\naside,\u201d she remarked.<\/p>\n<p>According to Suzie, Israel\u2019s position is the most impacted by the\nagreement because it faces the potential loss of the full support\npreviously provided by Washington in facing Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the future sustainability of the MoU, including potential\nchanges in political leadership in both the US and Iran, Suzie believes\nthere is a significant chance for the agreement to endure. She\nemphasised that a memorandum of understanding is a common diplomatic\ninstrument used in international relations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMoUs are frequently created; even if they do not culminate in a\nformal treaty, they remain secure because the US is more concerned about\nIran\u2019s actions than Iran is fearful of the US,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n<p>She concluded that the strategic interests of both nations will be a\nprimary determinant in maintaining the continuity of communication and\ndiplomacy established through the MoU.<\/p>",
