Universitas Gadjable Mada (UGM) has implemented new regulations
regarding the timing of physical activities within the campus
environment. Residents wishing to walk, run, or cycle within the UGM
area on weekdays are now directed to exercise during specific hours.

“UGM supports physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle. What
we are doing is organising the use of space so that exercise, academic
activities, and the mobility of the campus community can coexist safely
and comfortably,” stated the Vice Rector of UGM for Planning, Assets,
and Information Systems, Arief Setiawan Budi Nugroho, in a written
statement.

On weekdays, from Monday to Friday, activities such as walking,
running, and cycling are directed to take place between 05:00–06:30 WIB
and 18:00–22:00 WIB. The public may continue to use pedestrian corridors
and available paths; however, exercise activities are not permitted to
use motorised vehicle lanes.

“The public can still utilise the pedestrian corridors and paths that
have long been used for exercise. This scheduling is implemented so that
physical activities and academic pursuits can run optimally
side-by-side,” Arief explained.

This regulation is reinforced by the UGM Rector’s Decree Number
977/UN1.P5/KPT/HUKOR/2026 concerning the Supervision and Order of
Exercise Activities within the Universitas Gadjah Mada environment,
which was established on 1 September 2026.

Arief emphasised that these regulations are not intended to prohibit
the public from exercising within the UGM area, but rather to direct
physical activities to spaces appropriate for their intended use.

“This regulation aims to create a campus environment that is healthy,
safe, orderly, comfortable, and inclusive for all users of the campus
area,” he said.

During the weekend, specifically on Saturdays and Sundays, exercise
and recreational activities can be carried out in permitted areas,
including GIK UGM and Wisdom Park.

The General Manager of UGM Residence, Wijayanti, added that the
Wisdom Park National Sports Hall (GOR Kebangsaan) operates daily from
06:00 to 22:00 WIB, while the park areas can be used until 18:00
WIB.

“Wisdom Park features the National Sports Hall, which is equipped
with various sports facilities. Additionally, there are walking and
running tracks, outdoor fitness areas, 3-on-3 courts, and recreational
areas available for public use,” she concluded.
",
