        "content": "<p>UGM launches cycling program<\/p>\n<p>YOGYAKARTA: In its bid to help rid the city of its traffic<br>\npollution, Gadjah Mada University last week launched the UGM<br>\nBangga Bersepeda program to encourage students and lecturers to<br>\nuse bicycles around campus.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We realize it would be too much if we asked them to ride<br>\nbicycles from home to campus. So, instead, we are encouraging<br>\nstudents to use bicycles inside the university compound,&quot; Center<br>\nfor Tourism Studies head Hendrie Adji Koswara said.<\/p>\n<p>The program, a joint effort of the tourism, environmental<br>\nstudies and transportation centers, was launched with a bike ride<br>\nfrom the gates of the Bunderan center to the university&apos;s central<br>\nbuilding. The launch also saw a special track for bikers and<br>\npedestrians inaugurated.<\/p>\n<p>The campus&apos; newly established Green Bicycle Community also<br>\ninvited participants to &quot;adopt&quot; used bicycles that the community<br>\nhad repainted green.<\/p>\n<p>An important patron of the event was Sleman Regent Ibnu<br>\nSubiyanto, who is seeking reelection in the June 26 regional<br>\npoll. --JP<\/p>",
