        "content": "<p>UGM celebrates 55th anniversary<\/p>\n<p>YOGYAKARTA: Gadjah Mada University (UGM), the oldest<br>\nuniversity in the country, celebrated its 55th anniversary on<br>\nMonday, while pledging to promote the values of humanity,<br>\ndemocracy, unity and social justice in the country.<\/p>\n<p>In his anniversary speech, UGM Rector Sofian Effendi called on<br>\nstudents and lecturers to make UGM a source of inspiration for<br>\npeople.<\/p>\n<p>UGM was established on December 19, 1949. However, as<br>\nDecember 19 this year fell on a Sunday, the anniversary was<br>\ncelebrated on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>During Monday's celebration, UGM Rector also presented<br>\nthe Hamengkubuwono IX Awards to Muhammadiyah chairman Ahmad<br>\nSyafii Maarif for his contribution in maintaining peace in the<br>\ncountry and Saparinah Sadli for her contribution to the struggle<br>\nfor improved women's rights. -- JP<\/p>",
