UEA organization helping flood victims<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): An Abu Dhabi-based social service organization
\nhave provided free medical services and donated food supplies for
\nsome 1,200 people affected by the recent floods here.<\/p>\n
The Abu Dhabi Welfare Organization deployed 17 doctors and
\nparamedics to give the residents of the badly-stricken
\nsubdistricts of Jatinegara and Bukit Duri basic medical checkups
\nand treatment on Friday. It also spent US$15,000 to provide 300
\nfamilies with packages of instant noodles, rice and milk.<\/p>\n
The organization will hold a similar drive for flood victims
\nin several towns in Aceh next week, spokesman Taufik Bachtiar
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Free<\/p>\n
In addition, the organization also plans to provide free
\nbreaking of the fast meals to 8,000 people in the coming fasting
\nmonth of Ramadhan.<\/p>\n
Around 1,000 people will be invited to join a breaking of the
\nfast meal with the United Arab Emirates' Ambassador Said Alkindi
\nnext week. A fund of $18,000 has been provided for the program.<\/p>\n
\"We also plan to give some 300 religious teachers in various
\nschools in Jakarta (post-Ramadhan) Idul Fitri presents,\" Taufik
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Poor<\/p>\n
The Abu Dhabi Welfare Organization, which routinely holds such
\ndrives every year, plans to also distribute 23 tons of rice for
\nthe poor during Ramadhan.<\/p>\n
In 1994, the organization provided similar services to victims
\nof tidal waves in some villages in Banyuwangi, East Java. It also
\nbrought 15 engineers and experts to educate villagers about
\nsanitation, as well as built nine public toilets and six wells
