        "content": "<p>Uber is implementing layoffs affecting around 10 per cent of its\nemployees as part of a company-wide restructuring and efficiency drive.\nAccording to a report from Engadget on Wednesday (2\/9) local time, Uber\nhad approximately 34,000 employees at the end of 2025.<\/p>\n<p>In a memo to staff, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi stated that the\ncompany will simplify its team structure and reduce management layers to\nenable faster operations while creating more space for investment. \u201cA\nleaner organisation will make responsibilities clearer, accelerate\ndecision-making, and provide more time for building rather than\ncoordinating,\u201d said Dara.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the efficiency gained from this restructuring would\nresult in savings that could be reinvested to support the company\u2019s\ngrowth and innovation. Dara explained that while Uber\u2019s business has\ngrown rapidly over the last five years\u2014with revenue nearly tripling\u2014this\ngrowth has also made the company\u2019s internal structure increasingly\ncomplex.<\/p>\n<p>Based on internal surveys, many employees felt too much time was\nbeing spent discussing various issues and coordinating between teams. To\naddress this, Uber is eliminating several positions focused on\ncoordination, reducing management layers, and merging teams that were\ndeemed to cause duplication of work and slow down decision-making.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to streamlining the organisational structure, Uber will\nalso centralise more teams in several key locations. The company will\nalso tighten its hybrid work policy; most employees working entirely\nremotely will be required to return to the office at least three days a\nweek. Dara estimates that only about one per cent of Uber employees will\ncontinue to work fully remotely in the future.<\/p>\n<p>This restructuring comes as Uber is also increasing its investment in\nthe autonomous vehicle sector. Last month, the company committed to\ninvesting up to US$10 billion (Rp177 trillion) to develop its autonomous\nvehicle business, following the sale of its driverless vehicle division\nin 2020. According to Dara, the restructuring steps are expected to help\nthe company build a stronger organisation for the long term.<\/p>",
