        "content": "<p>Typhoon Dolphin finally made landfall on China\u2019s eastern coast on\nSunday (09\/08\/2026). The storm brought heavy rain and strong winds,\nprompting authorities to prepare for the threat of flooding and\nlandslides across much of the country\u2019s eastern region.<\/p>\n<p>Citing Channel News Asia on Monday (10\/08\/2026), Typhoon Dolphin had\nearlier swept through Okinawa Prefecture in southern Japan. The deadly\nnatural disaster was reported to have injured six people and cut off\nelectricity to more than 50,000 buildings.<\/p>\n<p>Before the storm made landfall in China, authorities had moved\noffshore workers to safety and ordered all ships to return to port. They\nalso stepped up monitoring of reservoirs, mountain streams,\nlandslide-prone areas, construction sites, and various tourist\nattractions.<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s National Meteorological Centre forecast that the storm would\nlast until Monday, with sustained wind speeds reaching 162 km\/h before\neventually weakening and moving inland. This strength is equivalent to a\nCategory Two storm on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, capable\nof causing severe damage to homes, trees, and infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Heavy rain is expected to continue until Monday across Zhejiang,\nShanghai, northern Fujian, northeastern Jiangxi, central and southern\nAnhui, and most of Jiangsu. Weather forecasters project that some parts\nof central and eastern Zhejiang could receive extraordinary rainfall of\nbetween 250 mm and 500 mm.<\/p>\n<p>State broadcaster CCTV reported that nearly 1,400 inbound and\noutbound flights at Shanghai\u2019s two main passenger airports were forced\nto be cancelled on Sunday. In the neighbouring province, Hangzhou\nairport in Zhejiang also recorded 270 flight cancellations due to the\nstorm.<\/p>\n<p>Singapore Airlines also cancelled eight of its flights to and from\nShanghai on Sunday. The airline has rescheduled 10 inbound and outbound\nShanghai flights for Monday and Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Wang Haiping, chief forecaster at the National Meteorological Centre,\noutlined the predicted path of the storm to CCTV.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter landfall, Dolphin is expected to track westward before slowing\nover central and southwestern China and gradually losing its strength,\u201d\nWang explained.<\/p>\n<p>The storm\u2019s movement is considered likely to prolong the duration of\nheavy rainfall. This will directly increase the risk of flooding and\nlandslides, especially in mountainous areas and along the courses of\nsmall rivers.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Water Resources said that the Qiantang, Yong, Jiao,\nand Shuiyang rivers have a high potential to experience severe flooding.\nMeanwhile, smaller rivers in the worst-affected areas are expected to\noverflow beyond warning levels.<\/p>\n<p>The Chinese government is currently maintaining a Level III flood\nemergency response in Zhejiang and Fujian, as well as Level IV in\nJiangsu and Anhui. China\u2019s four-tier emergency system designates Level I\nas the most severe crisis category.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Emergency Management stated that it has dispatched\nvarious emergency assistance teams to Zhejiang and Fujian. Meanwhile,\nthe Ministry of Natural Resources has also established a Level III\ngeological disaster response in Zhejiang and Level IV in Anhui.<\/p>\n<p>The response designations serve as a stark warning of the danger of\nlandslides and other natural disasters in eastern Zhejiang and western\nAnhui. Authorities have warned of a high risk of geological disasters in\nseveral parts of Zhejiang.<\/p>\n<p>Residents in areas covered by the red warning for mountain flash\nflood danger have been instructed to immediately comply with local\nevacuation orders.<\/p>\n<p>The city\u2019s maritime safety administration stated that Yangshan Port\nin Shanghai has removed ships from its docks.
