        "content": "<p>Two vying for top ASEAN post<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (AP): A Filipino and Malaysian are vying to<br>\nbecome the next secretary-general of the Association of Southeast<br>\nAsian Nations (ASEAN), Malaysia's national news agency reported<br>\nyesterday.<\/p>\n<p>At their 30th annual meeting this week, the foreign ministers<br>\nof the seven ASEAN members will decide between another five-year<br>\nterm for Malaysia's Ajit Singh or giving the post to Philippine<br>\nforeign affairs undersecretary Rodolfo C. Severino, Bernama said,<br>\nquoting ASEAN officials it didn't name.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Ajit Singh said the ASEAN secretariat's annual<br>\nbudget was estimated at US$6 million and that all members had to<br>\nshare the cost equally, even though it is based in Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>The current ASEAN members are the Philippines, Malaysia,<br>\nSingapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Thailand and Vietnam.<\/p>",
