Two thieves face citizen's arrest<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A resident of Jl. Kebon Kacang, Central Jakarta
\napprehended two men after they robbed a woman of her handbag
\ncontaining Rp 7 million on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n
The two were identified as Jumaher, 20 and Selaman, 21, Lubis
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
City police spokesman Lt. Col. Zainuri Lubis said that the
\nincident took place at 1 a.m., as Tetty Arli, a resident of Tanah
\nAbang, returned home from her office at Hotel Wisata by becak
\n(pedicab).<\/p>\n
Two men riding on an RX-King motorcycle approached the pedicab
\nand snatched Tetty's handbag from her lap.<\/p>\n
The victim's screams alerted pedicab drivers and other people
\nin the vicinity.<\/p>\n
"So many people were chasing the thieves as they left on their
\nmotorcycle, that they panicked and hit a car parked nearby,"
\nLubis said.<\/p>\n
The resident made the citizen's arrest and the police arrived
\nshortly afterward.<\/p>\n
He said that the two sustained a beating before being handed
\nover to police. No serious injuries were reported.<\/p>\n
Lubis said that police confiscated the handbag belonging to
\nthe victim as evidence.<\/p>\n
"The bag contained Rp 7 million," he said.<\/p>\n
The two suspects were detained at Central Jakarta police
