Two suspects in Grogol gold robbery busted<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Police have arrested two suspects of last
\nmonth's robbery in West Jakarta in which a police sergeant was
\nshot to dead.<\/p>\n
A police source said yesterday that the two were apprehended
\nin separate raids in Jakarta and the East Java capital of
\nSurabaya last week.<\/p>\n
Police also seized a Yamaha RX King motorcycle, a sickle and a
\nmachete believed to have been used in the Aug. 1 robbery on Jl.
\nDr. Susilo in Grogol, said the source.<\/p>\n
City Police spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang confirmed the
\narrests but refused to give their identities or details of the
\narrest.<\/p>\n
\"Everything is still under investigation,\" he said.<\/p>\n
First Sgt. Witono was killed while on assignment escorting an
\nemployee of a private company who was transporting two kilograms
\nof gold bars from Pasar Grogol to Roxy Mas. Witono was a member
\nof the elite brigade mobile police unit.<\/p>\n
Witono, 27, was shot twice in the abdomen and wounded in his
\nleft hand.<\/p>\n
According to the source, police detectives are looking for six
\nother suspects believed to be involved in the robbery, including
\nthe mastermind and alleged shooter.<\/p>\n
Police are intensively interrogating the two suspects to
\nobtain detailed information about their accomplices and on the
\nrobbery itself.<\/p>\n
During police interrogation, the two confessed to committing
\nthe robbery with six other accomplices, said the source.<\/p>\n
\"They said four men drove two motorcycles behind Witono and
\nthe others were in a car in front of the officer,\" said the
\nsource.<\/p>\n
Those in the car were meant to force Witono to drive in the
\nother direction while the two on motorcycles were to corner him,
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
The two arrested suspects, however, denied the allegation that
\nthey had attacked and shot the officer.<\/p>\n
Another source said yesterday that the two had said one of
\ntheir accomplices was a serviceman.<\/p>\n
It remains unclear what happened to the gold as police have
