Two suspects arrested over Pamulang murder<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Two children and their pregnant mother were
\nfound murdered in their Bumi Pelita Kencana housing complex
\nresidence on Wednesday in Pondok Cabe, Pamulang.<\/p>\n
Suroto found his six-month pregnant wife, Suryatiningsih, 36,
\nand his 12-year-old daughter, Nurwanti, dead in a wardrobe. He
\nalso discovered his nine-year-old son, Rachmanto, lifeless in a
\nfilled bathtub.<\/p>\n
Police arrested two men for the murders later on Wednesday,
\ncity police spokesman Lt. Col. Aritonang said on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The two suspects, Soleh, 47, and Sahmud Jusani, 30, were
\nstaying at a house in the victims' neighborhood, he said.<\/p>\n
\"What sins have I committed to deserve such tragedy falling on
\nmy family. I have no enemies at all,\" cried Suroto, who had
\nrecently lost his job at state-owned Pelita Air Service in Halim
\nPerdanakusuma, East Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Many residents criticized the way police at the scene handled
\nthe case, saying the detectives carried themselves
\nunprofessionally.<\/p>\n
Suroto was placed under arrest shortly after police came to
\nthe scene, but was released early Thursday.<\/p>\n
A local resident said that despite statements from people
\nliving in the neighborhood, the detectives had insisted on
\ntreating Suroto as a suspect.<\/p>\n
Both Soleh and Sahmud admitted to the killings, saying they
\nturned on the victims after being caught red-handed breaking into
\na cupboard in the house.<\/p>\n
\"We didn't plan on killing the victims. We were just forced to
\ndo it,\" Sahmud said.<\/p>\n
Sahmud had been staying at a nearby house, while Soleh, a
\nresident of Sukabumi in West Java, had been hired to paint the
\nneighbor's house.<\/p>\n
He said they broke into Suroto's house after they had heard
\nthat Suryatiningsih had just received an inheritance of Rp 10
\nmillion from her parents in Bandung to help the family since
\nSuroto had lost his job.<\/p>\n
Sahmud denied murdering the victims, saying he had only been a
\nlookout while Soleh killed the victims one by one.<\/p>\n
When Suryatiningsih, who had just arrived home after picking
\nup her daughter from school, came upon them, he said they
\npretended to be borrowing a saw.<\/p>\n
Soleh then quickly covered Suryatiningsih's mouth and hit her
\nhead to the floor before stabbing her, Aritonang said.<\/p>\n
Nurwanti, who had been in the bathroom, was slashed in the
\nneck, stomach and chest several times by Sahmud, he said.<\/p>\n
Before his arrest, Soleh reportedly said he committed the
\nmurder without worrying about the consequences because he needed
\nmoney to remarry.<\/p>\n
Aritonang said the two suspects moved their victims to a
\nwardrobe and then cleaned blood from the floor.<\/p>\n
They later killed Rachmanto, a fifth grade student of a state
\nelementary school near the housing complex, at 1:30 p.m. when he
\narrived home from school.<\/p>\n
The two suspects were being detained at the South Jakarta
\nPolice Precinct for further investigation.<\/p>\n
Following a postmortem examination at Cipto Mangunkusumo
\nGeneral Hospital, the three bodies were taken to Bandung for
