        "content": "<p>Two soldiers go on trial<\/p>\n<p>DENPASAR, Bali: The military tribunal has charged two soldiers<br>\nwith deviating from a standard military operation, which led to<br>\nthe murder of six people in Liquisa, East Timor, on Jan. 12.<\/p>\n<p>The defendants, First Lt. Jermias Kasse and First Private<br>\nRusdin Maubere, were tried separately.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutor Lt. Col. Asmar Gutji said that Kasse, an<br>\nintelligence officer at the Liquisa military district, who led<br>\nthe operation, disobeyed his commandant's order in the operation<br>\nagainst members of separatist Fretilin rebels.<\/p>\n<p>The 30-member team was ordered to arrest the rebels, who were<br>\nunarmed, Antara reported.<\/p>\n<p>But upon seeing one of the soldiers was attacked by an alleged<br>\nrebel, the defendant ordered the team to \"finish\" the six unarmed<br>\nrebels, who they had arrested.<\/p>\n<p>Maubere interpreted Kasse's order as executing the six<br>\nprisoners, the prosecutor said.
