Two more newborns dumped in Jakarta<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Two newborns have been found dead in South and
\nEast Jakarta in the past two days.<\/p>\n
One of the infants was found floating in a river in Ulujami,
\nPesanggrahan district in South Jakarta, 7 a.m. yesterday, while
\nthe other was found on a vacant lot on Jl. Dermaga in Duren
\nSawit, East Jakarta, Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Forensic experts at Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital who
\nexamined the bodies said both were newborns and not the victims
\nof abortion.<\/p>\n
\"They were born naturally but dumped soon after they were
\nborn,\" one of the experts, Bambang H.P., said.<\/p>\n
The cause of death was not known but there were no signs of
\nviolence.<\/p>\n
A baby boy was found in the river by a construction worker,
\nTarman, who lived in a makeshift house along the riverbanks, as
\nhe crossed over a bamboo bridge.<\/p>\n
\"It was still early when I went down to the river to take a
\npee. Then I noticed a sarong floating near the bushes.\"<\/p>\n
Tarman retrieved the sarong and found the baby wrapped inside.<\/p>\n
Kebayoran Lama Police took the body to the hospital for a
\npostmortem examination.<\/p>\n
Bambang said an external examination had revealed that the
\ninfant may have been dumped two days ago.<\/p>\n
The baby's umbilical cord may have been cut by force, he said.<\/p>\n
The other baby, a girl, was found Wednesday afternoon by an
\neight-year-old boy, Hendra Aji.<\/p>\n
Hendra said he was playing on a vacant plot when he noticed
\nlots of flies flying around an object.<\/p>\n
When he went to investigate he saw the baby girl, who was
\nlaying face down. The umbilical cord was still intact.<\/p>\n
\"The discovery was a surprise because we still remember the
\nrecent unearthing of dozens of dumped babies and fetuses in the
\ncapital,\" Hendra's mother said.<\/p>\n
\"I never thought that I would see for myself such an inhumane
