Two more jail guards imprisoned<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Two more employees of the Cipinang Penitentiary
\nwere jailed by the Central Jakarta District Court yesterday for
\ntheir role in businessman Eddy Tansil's escape.<\/p>\n
The court, in separate hearings, found Suwarno Madislam and
\nSuparmo, both 47, guilty of taking part in the conspiracy that
\nled to Tansil's escape in May.<\/p>\n
Suwarno, who was responsible for the Tansil's security,
\nescorted him out of the penitentiary and all the way to a pick up
\npoint outside Gadjah Mada Plaza. He was sentenced to two years
\nimprisonment.<\/p>\n
Suparmo received eight months.<\/p>\n
The court said both men took bribes from Tansil in return for
\nhelping him escape.<\/p>\n
Tansil, the owner of the Golden Key Group, was convicted of
\nswindling Rp 1.3 trillion ($620 million) out of the state-owned
\nBank Pembangunan Indonesia. He was in the second year of a 20-
\nyear jail term. Tansil is still at large and is believed to have
\nfled the country.<\/p>\n
Two other prison guards have already been convicted by the
\nsame court for their roles in his escape. They both received
\neight months jail.<\/p>\n
A fifth guard is still on trial.<\/p>\n
All the four convicted guards pleaded innocence, stressing
\nthat they were simply carrying out their superiors' orders. They
\nhad all said they assumed Tansil was leaving the penitentiary for
\na medical check up.<\/p>\n
Tansil had a medical leave permit, but it was not due for
\nanother two days after his escape.<\/p>\n
They also said accepting small amounts of money from inmates
\nwas a normal practice and were considered as \"tips\". (16)<\/p>",
