Two missing in flood<\/p>\n
PURBALINGGA, Central Java: Two people, Mahyuni, 20, and
\nMihardji, 60, are feared to have died after being drowned in the
\ntroubled Gintung River on Sunday.<\/p>\n
A number of rivers across the province burst their banks after
\npersistent rainfall since Saturday. The floods inundated
\nthousands of houses in Purbalingga, Kudus and Pekalongan, forcing
\nhundreds of people to seek refuge.<\/p>\n
A spokesman for the Purbalingga administration, Sukarno, said
\non Monday the two flood victims might have been killed by rocks
\nwhich were scattered along the river.<\/p>\n
Witnesses said both Mahyuni and Mihardji were passing a bridge
\nover the river when the flood overwhelmed them. The two screamed
\nfor help, but nobody was able to rescue them.<\/p>\n
The search for the victims' bodies continued on Monday,
\naccording to Sukarno.<\/p>\n
In Pekalongan, the floods affected seven villages and left
\nsome 3,000 families displaced. Spokesman for the regency's
\nadministration Suharto said no fatalities resulted from the
