Two die, three injured in brawl at discotheque<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Two people died and three others were seriously
\ninjured early on Sunday morning after dozens of people armed with
\nmachetes attacked MW Istana Dangdut discotheque on Jl. Pangeran
\nTubagus Angke, Pesing, West Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Agus Suratman, 29, from nearby Tambora, and Halim Murtadho,
\n18, a parking attendant at the discotheque, were stabbed to death
\nduring the attack, believed to have been carried out by a gang of
\npeople from Surabaya.<\/p>\n
Mun'im Idris, a forensic expert at Cipto Mangunkusumo General
\nHospital (RSCM), confirmed that the two men died from deep head
\nwounds.<\/p>\n
The three injured men were Supandi, 33, from Tanah Sereal;
\nMistam, a discotheque staffer, and Rudy Valentino Arief, 33, an
\nojek (motorcycle taxi) driver.<\/p>\n
Supandi and Mistam were admitted to nearby Sumber Waras
\nHospital, while Valentino, who suffered serious head wounds, was
\nrushed to the Cipto's emergency unit.<\/p>\n
Pance, a local resident, said the dispute started on Saturday.<\/p>\n
\"The attack was a matter of revenge. Some people, believed to
\nbe Makassarese, stabbed a member of a rival group, Dahlan, to
\ndeath at nearby Ratu Ayu discotheque early on Saturday,\" he said
\nat the Cipto on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Mamat, a senior member of staff at MW Istana Dangdut
\ndiscotheque, said Dahlan's death had angered his fellow gang
\nmembers, mostly from Surabaya, East Java.<\/p>\n
\"Dozens of members of the group, who live in Muara Angke, then
\nlooked for all the Makassarese at the Ratu Ayu Discotheque for
\nrevenge,\" he said at Sumber Waras Hospital on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Makassarese are in charge of parking at the Ratu Discotheque,
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
Mamat, victim Mistam's uncle, said the mob moved to MW Istana
\nDangdut Discotheque after they failed to find any Makassarese,
\nsince the Ratu Ayu Discotheque closed at around 1 a.m.<\/p>\n
\"The mob looked for other Makassarese people at MW
\ndiscotheque. Upon arriving at the discotheque, they wildly
\nattacked customers there,\" he said, adding that the mob also
\nsmashed bottles and damaged furniture in the three-story
\nbuilding.<\/p>\n
Muhammad Sadli, a local resident, said the mob had arrived in
\ntwo trucks.<\/p>\n
Twenty-four-year-old Mistam, who suffered 11 stab wounds, said
\nhe regularly cleaned the discotheque early on Sunday.<\/p>\n
It appears the people ran amok after they failed to find their
\nenemies, said Mistam.<\/p>\n
\"The situation was calm at the beginning. But suddenly the mob
\nran amok on the second floor. They also ran down to the first
\nfloor where I was doing my job, and stabbed everyone inside,\" he
\nsaid at Sumber Waras Hospital.<\/p>\n
Mistam ran out of the building but tripped over outside the
\nbuilding.<\/p>\n
\"Four people tried to slash my head, but I covered it with my
\nright hand. It was only after I shouted that I was Javanese that
\nthey halted their violent actions,\" said Mistam, whose right hand
\nwas covered in a thick bandage.<\/p>\n
Supandi was allowed home after treatment at the hospital.<\/p>\n
Mamat said a similar rampage occurred at the MW discotheque
\nlast year.<\/p>\n
\"I forgot the precise date, but the discotheque was closed for
\ntwo weeks,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The motive behind the incident remains unclear. No one has
\nreportedly been arrested.<\/p>\n
The case is now being investigated by Tanjung Duren Police.
