Two die as scaffolding collapses at Gigi gig<\/p>\n
Two concertgoers were killed and 50 others were injured late on
\nSaturday after scaffolding they were sitting on collapsed at a
\nTangerang university.<\/p>\n
The dead, who police named as Saiful Anwar and Zainal Asikin,
\ndied when a ledge constructed around the campus' student center
\nbuilding fell onto them.<\/p>\n
They were attending a concert by the band Gigi held at the
\nSyarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) campus in
\nCiputat, Tangerang.<\/p>\n
Organizing committee head Diman said dozens of concertgoers
\nhad sat on the ledge.<\/p>\n
\"It was supported by thin concrete and it was frail. I still
\ndon't know how they managed to climb up there,\" he was quoted as
\nsaying by detik.com on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Gigi had only played three songs when the ledge broke, with
\npeople and debris landing on the audience below.<\/p>\n
The crowd demanded Gigi continue with the show before the band
\nstopped after the seventh song.<\/p>\n
UIN Rector Azyumardi Azra visited the injured victims at the
\nFatmawati Hospital in the early hours of Sunday and sent his
\napologies to the victims' families.<\/p>\n
The university would cover all the medical expenses of the
\nvictims, he said<\/p>\n
\"The university will also give some money to the families who
\nlost their children as an expression of our sympathy,\" Azyumardi
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
\"The accident was out of control. We did not authorize for the
\nledge to be used ... I heard some people had climbed the
\nemergency stairs to reach the scaffold,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Ciputat Police detectives chief First Insp. Bambang Widinako,
\nsaid police were still investigating the case.<\/p>\n
\"We have summoned two witnesses from the organizing committee.
\nSo far, we have not determined if it was an accident or not,\" he
