Two detained in passport scam<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Immigration officials have detained two
\nPakistanis who tried to use black market Canadian passports to
\nleave the country.<\/p>\n
Immigration director for supervision and control Zaiman
\nNurmatias said yesterday Muhammad Shahid Rathore, 25, and Sajjad
\nAhmad Khanpur, 26, were arrested at the Soekarno-Hatta
\nInternational Airport after officials became suspicious about the
\npassports.<\/p>\n
\"Muhammad and Shahid held Canadian passports, bearing the
\nnumbers VN 504183 and VB 587465 respectively, and were on their
\nway to join their friends living in Canada,\" Zaiman said.<\/p>\n
During questioning, the two acknowledged they also bore
\nPakistani passports C 14763 issued in Rawalpindi and B 777875
\nissued in Peshawar, Zaiman said.<\/p>\n
They used the Pakistani documents to enter Jakarta via
\nSingapore on May 27.<\/p>\n
The men were about to board a flight to Hong Kong when
\nofficials noted discrepancies in the passports, Zaiman said. They
\nconfessed to buying their Canadian passports and plane tickets
\nfor US$17,000, he added.<\/p>\n
The arrests were just the latest in a spate involving
\nforeigners. Zaiman said immigration officials barred entry to 59
\nforeign nations in May for reasons ranging from insufficient
\nfunds to their inclusion on the official blacklist. (hhr)<\/p>",
