Two companies caught polluting<\/p>\n
TANGERANG: A joint team comprising the Tangerang municipal
\nenvironmental agency officials and the local police caught red-
\nhanded two industrial firms while they were tossing their raw
\nwaste into the Sabi river in Cibodas district.<\/p>\n
The officials found the textile companies, PT Indotaichen and
\nPT Pelangi Prima Dirgantara Dyeing Industry, dumping the waste
\ninto the river as they staked out the site from Wednesday night
\nto early Thursday at 4 a.m.<\/p>\n
After finding main pipes from the two firms funneling waste
\ninto the river during the night, the team took some of the waste
\nas a sample to be tested in a laboratory for further examination.<\/p>\n
\"If the waste is proven dangerous, we will take stern measures
\nin accordance with existing laws that stipulate that company
\nowners can be taken to court,\" the agency chief M. Akip, who led
\nthe team, said.<\/p>\n
Water in the Sabi river is black, oily and smelly, apparently
\nbecause of the industrial pollution.--JP<\/p>",
