Two city policewomen promoted<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): City police set a new precedent yesterday with
\nthe installation of two policewomen as deputies to the chiefs of
\npolice subprecincts.<\/p>\n
\"It's the first time that Jakarta has policewomen as police
\nchief deputies,\" said City Police spokesman Lt. Col. Iman
\nHaryatna.<\/p>\n
The two policewomen, Capt. Nurhayati, 37, and Capt. Titi
\nValentine, 38, were promoted as police chief deputies at the
\nPancoran police subprecinct in South Jakarta and Ciracas police
\nsubprecinct in East Jakarta respectively.<\/p>\n
The city currently has around 50 police subprecincts, all of
\nwhich are led by male officers.<\/p>\n
\"There's no sex discrimination in the police force,\" said
\nIman. \"Those who are appointed have taken a series of tests,\" he
\nadded.<\/p>\n
No information was immediately available on Titi.<\/p>\n
Nurhayati, who is married to a banker, has spent most of her
\nearly career working at the Kalimantan and Jakarta traffic police
\ndivisions. She took a traffic course in the Netherlands in 1990.
\nHer latest occupation is at the City Police Information Agency as
\none of Iman's staff.<\/p>\n
Among some of the tasks performed by a deputy to head of a
\npolice subprecinct are the monitoring of personnel and taking
\nover the chief's position when the latter is absent or off duty.
