Two caught in C. Java for robbery, murder<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): South Jakarta detectives, in cooperation with
\nCentral Java officers, have arrested two construction workers in
\nconnection with Monday's robbery and killing of a maid in
\nJagakarsa.<\/p>\n
Yatno, alias Bagong, 30, was arrested at this home in Wonogiri
\non Wednesday and Paino, 26, was picked up on Thursday in
\nSukohardjo.<\/p>\n
"They have just arrived here this morning," South Jakarta
\npolice chief Lt. Col. SY Wenas told reporters here yesterday.<\/p>\n
The two men are charged with robbery and the killing of a 20-
\nyear-old maid, Alfiati, alias Sihal.<\/p>\n
The maid was found dead in a well near her employer's house on
\nJl. H. Montong 36 at Ciganjur, one day after the incident.<\/p>\n
The maid's body, found with the head embedded in the sediment
\nat the bottom of the 13-meter-deep, 80-centimeter-in-diameter
\nwell, was retrieved by the police and military personnel.<\/p>\n
"In the beginning, we thought that the maid was involved in
\nthe robbery plot and had escaped with the other suspects," Wenas
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The two had also dumped Putri Komalasari, the eight-year-old
\ndaughter of the owner of the house, into the same well.<\/p>\n
She was saved by her elder sister, Muthia Ayu Herlianti, 13,
\nwho heard her screaming upon her arrival home from school.<\/p>\n
Putri was taken from the well by neighbors one day before the
\nmaid was found dead there.<\/p>\n
"Putri told us that the robbery and killing were committed by
\ntwo men, one of whom was Bagong, a construction worker who had
\nbeen recently hired by her parents to build a gate at their
\nhouse," said the Jagakarsa police subprecinct chief, Capt. Agus
\nSoewartiono.<\/p>\n
"We then assigned four detectives to see if the suspects had
\nfled to Central Java," Agus said.<\/p>\n
Speaking with reporters, Bagong said he plotted the crime.<\/p>\n
"As we knew that the two people would identify us to the
\npolice, we strangled the maid and dumped her in the well," Bagong
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
"We tried to do the same with the little girl, but she was
\nstill crying when we threw her into the well," Paino said. (bsr)<\/p>",
