Two 'boss-nappers' arrested<\/p>\n
BATAM, Riau: Batam Police named on Tuesday two workers of PT
\nSindo Bintan Precast suspects for holding their foreign bosses
\nhostage for 42 hours on the neighboring island of Bintan.<\/p>\n
Kah Sag, 28, and Rah Ray, 30, were charged with restricting
\nother people's freedom and illegal possession of sharp weapons
\nafter they and some other 80 workers barred Lee Tien Kheh of
\nMalaysia and Tej Kumar Limbu, Ronald Goh Yong Kiang and Tan Khang
\nHua of Singapore from leaving their office on Friday.<\/p>\n
Also held captive were Indonesian administration staff Norman,
\nMei Lie, Mudianto and Andi Mariyono.<\/p>\n
The captives were released on Sunday after around 50 police
\nintervened.<\/p>\n
The move was sparked by the Singaporean construction and
\nbuilding materials company's decision to lay off the workers
\nwithout adequate severance pay. The<\/p>\n
In his response, chairman of the local chapter of Association
\nof Indonesian Employers (Apindo), Rudy Chua, expressed his regret
\nof the incident which he said would further defame ruin
\nIndonesia's credibility among foreign investors.<\/p>\n
Bintan lies about 40 kilometers southeast of Singapore.<\/p>\n
Violence erupted on the island two years ago when local
\nvillagers armed with spears and machetes protested over unfair
\nland deals they said they were forced to make with Singapore
\ndevelopers. More than a dozen people were injured. -- JP<\/p>",
