Two arrested for attempted robberies<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Police arrested two people yesterday for
\nattacking ojek (motorcycle taxi) drivers in Bekasi, 35 kilometers
\neast of here, and in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, thanks to the
\nrapid response by local inhabitants.<\/p>\n
Police assume the motive for both attacks was robbery.<\/p>\n
The first incident took place in the Kebon Kosong area of Jaka
\nSampurna housing complex in Bekasi. Tigid, a local ojek driver
\nwas attacked from behind by a passenger.<\/p>\n
With stab wounds in the chest and stomach, the 30-year-old
\nTigid was still able to scream for help, at which dozens of
\nresidents of Jaka Sampurna rushed to the scene to lend
\nassistance. Some of the residents rushed Tigid to Bekasi general
\nhospital and some of them chased the suspect.<\/p>\n
The suspect, identified as Sinan, 20, was then captured with a
\nknife in his possession and handed over to the Bekasi police. The
\nsuspect admitted to trying to steal Tigid's motorcycle.<\/p>\n
Tigid is now in intensive care at the Bekasi general hospital.<\/p>\n
The second case occurred at the Jakarta Fairground in
\nKemayoran at about 2 a.m. yesterday.<\/p>\n
The suspect, Ahmad Sopyan, 19, also failed to escape with the
\nmotorcycle after the driver, M. Nasir, 20, fought back and
\nscreamed for help.<\/p>\n
Local residents and passersby captured the suspect who was
\nalso in possession of a knife.<\/p>\n
Nasir suffered slight injury to his hands during the struggle.<\/p>\n
According to city police spokesman-in-charge, Maj. Nyoman
\nSuryasta, attacks on ojek drivers have became more violent.<\/p>\n
Taxi drivers are also the victims of similar violence, he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Police have urged both taxi and ojek drivers to protect
\nthemselves by equipping themselves with any crime prevention
