Two arrested for alleged rape<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Police have arrested two men as suspects in the
\ngang rape of a 20-year-old female college student at her
\nboardinghouse in North Jakarta.<\/p>\n
City police spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang said Wednesday
\nthat the men, together with a third who is still at large,
\nallegedly raped EH, an economic institute student, on July 2.<\/p>\n
The woman reported the assault to the North Jakarta Police the
\nfollowing day.<\/p>\n
"After a thorough investigation, we managed to arrest two of
\nthe suspects, identified as Usman, 40, and M. Mardji, 25, in
\nseparate raids Monday night," Aritonang said.<\/p>\n
Usman, a construction worker, was arrested at his house in
\nKemayoran, Central Jakarta, and Mardji, an ojek (motorcycle taxi)
\ndriver, was taken into custody in Grendeng subdistrict,
\nTangerang.<\/p>\n
"Usman was once hired by the owner of the boardinghouse, Mrs.
\nWawa, to do some construction work there. He then duplicated the
\nkeys of the boardinghouse," Aritonang said.<\/p>\n
On the day of the incident, Usman and his friends allegedly
\nplanned to burgle the boardinghouse at about 2 p.m.<\/p>\n
"Failing to find valuable things to steal, they raped EH, who
\nwas sleeping when they entered her room," he said.<\/p>\n
Mrs. Wawa found EH half naked, bruised and unconscious at
\nabout 3:45 p.m. the same day.<\/p>\n
With the help of neighbors, EH was taken to Griya Medika
\nhospital in North Jakarta for medical treatment.<\/p>\n
Police are still searching for the other suspect. "The two
\nsuspects are currently detained at North Jakarta police
\nprecinct," Aritonang added. (edt)<\/p>",
