Two anti-Sutiyoso protesters arrested<\/p>\n

Police arrested on Saturday two demonstrators from the Alliance
\nfor the Annulment of Governor Sutiyoso's Inauguration (Libas)
\nduring a rally in front of the Jakarta Council building on Jl.
\nKebon Sirih, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
According to Elshinta radio station, the demonstration was
\npeaceful at the beginning, with some demonstrators burning pro-
\nSutiyoso posters that they collected on the way to City Council.<\/p>\n
However, when they were about to leave the council building,
\npolice officers standing nearby moved in and apprehended two of
\nthe demonstrators.<\/p>\n
A clash ensued as demonstrators intervened in an effort to
\nstop the police officers from taking their friends.<\/p>\n
The police managed to arrest two demonstrators, Riki Tamba
\nfrom the Kaaba Youth Movement (GPK) and Frederich from the
\nNational Front for the Struggle of Indonesian Workers (FNPBI),
\nwhich are both wings of the Democratic People's Party (PRD).<\/p>\n
Central Jakarta Police deputy chief Adj. Comr. Iza Fardi told
\nAntara that the police had planned to arrest Riki for stamping on
\na picture of President Megawati Soekarnoputri during a rally in
\nfront of Merdeka Palace a few months ago.<\/p>\n
"We arrested Riki because he had been on our wanted list.
\nMeanwhile, Frederich was arrested for his involvement in the
\nclash with security personnel that day," Iza said.<\/p>\n
Sutiyoso was reelected for a second five-year term earlier
\nlast month amid protests from various non-governmental
\norganizations (NGOs) and public figures. Money had allegedly
\nchanged hands in his reelection.<\/p>\n
The NGOs, including PRD, the Jakarta Residents Forum and the
\nIslam Defenders Front (FPI), earlier threatened to deploy
\nthousands of supporters to prevent the inauguration ceremony of
\nSutiyoso, scheduled for Monday.<\/p>\n
The council's secretariat planned to move the ceremony from
\nthe council building to the Jakarta Fair Grounds in Kemayoran,
\nCentral Jakarta, because of the threat.<\/p>",
