Twillite back 'Dancing All Over the World'<\/p>\n

Two alternatives: One, you could sit back, relax and enjoy the
\nmusic; two, you might leave your seat, get on your feet and dance
\nalong. But wait a minute; this is no salsa competition. This will
\nbe part of a concert performed by Twilite Orchestra where dancing
\nmay not be allowed.<\/p>\n
\"Dancing All Over The World\" is the theme chosen by Twilite
\nOrchestra that will perform at Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta this
\nWednesday. With the success of the previous show Movie
\nSpectacular, this time the orchestra brings symphonic music into
\nthe light through dances from different parts of the globe.<\/p>\n
Some familiar classic tunes from the 19th and 20th century
\nsuch as the Waltz, Tango and Flamenco will be performed here.<\/p>\n
The concert will open with a number from the famous Russian
\ncomposer Pyotr'Ilyich Tchaikovsky, a great polonaise melody taken
\nfrom the opera of the aimless love story Eugene Onigin.<\/p>\n
Tchaikovsky's music is thoroughly Russian in character; this
\ncan also be felt from the orchestra's performance of his famous
\nballet-scores in Swan Lake and Nutcracker which was first staged
\nin St. Petersburg in 1892.<\/p>\n
To bring lively feelings, this time Twilite is also performing
\nwith the Genecela Dance Center. Choreographers Edmund and Yasinta
\nGaerlan will demonstrate the art of dancing for the music of
\nopera, ballet and musicals.<\/p>\n
Moving out from the Russian ballets, Twilite Orchestra also
\nintroduces a glimpse of Spanish to the audience with the Ritual
\nFire Dance from El Amor Brujo. El amor brujo (Love the Magician),
\nis a ghostly story of gypsy jealousy. Michael de Falla composed
\nthis song, he is one of the Spanish composers who has won
\ninternational recognition.<\/p>\n
Dancing is not only a culture introduced in the European
\ncontinent, the Americans with its cowboy background also have
\ntheir own style and music to go along with it. In this concert,
\nthe work of a premiere American composer, Aaron Copland, called
\nRodeo will also be played. It is considered an important work of
\nits time based on American folklore.<\/p>\n
Rodeo is one of Copland's most imitated works because whenever
\na rodeo or round-up is seen in a movie or television show, the
\nbackground score is usually a rendition derived from Rodeo's Hoe
\nDown. One who is familiar with the ballet may recognize it right
\naway.<\/p>\n
Ending the first half of the program is Johan Strauss' Blue
\nDanube. Strauss brought the Viennese waltz to its highest form
\nwith his gifts for melody, interesting harmonic structures, and
\nclever orchestrations. This is actually the most demanded song by
\nthe Indonesian audience to be played, according to the Twilite
\nOrchestra's survey from the last concert.<\/p>\n
After a taste of Viennese music, Twilite will present Dance of
\nthe Comedians from the opera The Bartered Bride. This is Bedrich
\nSmentana's best known opera, the overture of which makes a
\nbrilliant opening to any orchestral concert program.<\/p>\n
His other operas have enjoyed less international success.
\nBedrich Smetana holds an important place in the development of
\nmusical nationalism in his native Bohemia, where he was born in
\n1824.<\/p>\n
Then Dance of Death, a medieval allegorical concept was
\nstarted in France, expressive of all the conquering power of
\ndeath, to which the arts of poetry, drama, and music, as well as
\nthe visual arts, all made their contribution.<\/p>\n
Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saens flapped on its musical
\nbroomstick through the dark, from wall to wall, zooming and
\ndipping and in general making swooping witch noises through the
\nimmense dark of the empty building. It was extremely dark and the
\ndarkness grew larger and more populated by the minute as the
\nmusic claimed it. This music would suit a Halloween party.<\/p>\n
Another Dance of Death is from the music of Jean Sibelius
\ncalled Valse Triste. Written in 1903 to accompany the play
\nKuolema (\"Death\") which portrays a dance of death between a dying
\nwoman and the grim reaper.<\/p>\n
After listening to the darkness of death, Twilite will bring
\nits audience to a classy Tango dance with Jacob Gade's famous
\nJalousy. It is the best known piece of music written by any Dane.
\nAs late as the 1970s someone on the planet played Tango Jalousy
\nonce every minute, only the Beatles' Yesterday could match its
\nsuccess.<\/p>\n
Before the concerts ends, Aning Katamsi, one of Indonesia's
\nleading sopranos, will once again perform and sing a song from
\nGiuseppe Verdi's opera I Vespi Siciliani portraying the beautiful
\nDuchess Elena.<\/p>\n
