We are quite concerned about television advertisements in the
\ncountry because of their biases. Take, for instance, the
\nadvertisement of a vitamin product carrying the initials SJ.<\/p>\n
The advertisement portrayed a child with eating problems and
\nshowed how the mother then proceeded to replace the child's food
\nwith the vitamin.<\/p>\n
The advertisement said the vitamins should be taken when
\nnecessary, but immediately told viewers that the vitamins could
\nalso be taken as a substitute for various substances included in
\none's daily diet.<\/p>\n
Such advertisements could be misinterpreted by youngsters.
\nThey might feel that one vitamin capsule would sustain them and
\nthat consumption of food would no longer be necessary. The
\ncapsule would provide them with strength, good health and good
\nspirits as demonstrated by the child in the advertisement.<\/p>\n
It is certainly a good idea that parents watch television with
\ntheir children. But, not every parent is in a position to do this
\nbecause of their respective activities.<\/p>\n
We understand that advertisements are mostly of a commercial
\nnature because they are designed to sell a product. But, people
\nshould be wary of advertisements which put the development of a
\nnation at risk.<\/p>\n
