Tunky to help industrial estate developers<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Minister of Industry and Trade Tunky Ariwibowo
\npromised yesterday to help industrial estate developers acquire
\nland faster.<\/p>\n
\"I will do my best to help them,\" Tunky was quoted by Antara
\nas saying regarding investors' complaints on the arduous and
\ncostly process of acquiring land for industrial estates.<\/p>\n
Tunky is also the chairman of the Coordinating Committee for
\nIndustrial Estate Development.<\/p>\n
Minister of Agrarian Affairs Soni Harsono refused to comment
\non this yesterday.<\/p>\n
Minister Harsono has instead issued an instruction which
\nprohibits any more land acquisition by public housing developers
\nin Greater Jakarta.<\/p>\n
West Java's Deputy Governor H.A. Sampoerna said earlier that
\nindustrial estate development in the province had been slow
\nbecause the National Land Agency refused to help expedite the
\nacquisition of land.<\/p>\n
The problem, according to Sampoerna, has been exacerbated by
\nthe ruling which prohibits local administrations from intervening
\nin land acquisitions by private companies.<\/p>\n
\"The consequence is that land speculators and middlemen often
\nstand as barriers between land owners and industrial estate
\ninvestors,\" Sampoerna noted.<\/p>\n
House members have often expressed concern over the sluggish
\ndevelopment of industrial estates, which are badly needed to
\nexpedite the establishment of new industrial plants, especially
\nin heavily populated provinces like Java.<\/p>\n
Goro Tamatsukuri, the president of the MM 2100 Industrial
\nEstate, recounted recently that land-acquisition problems had
\ndelayed the implementation of his estate project by seven years.<\/p>\n
House member Tadjoeddin Noer expressed doubts that Indonesia
\nwould be able to achieve its investment target if the problems
\nencountered by industrial estate developers were not solved once
