Tunky revamps ministry<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Minister of Industry and Trade Tunky Ariwibowo
\nyesterday shook up his ministry, which is a merger of former
\nministries of industry and trade, by installing first and second
\nechelon officials in a hastily-prepared inauguration ceremony.<\/p>\n
\"I kept the names of the new officials in my personal diskette
\nuntil the last minute,\" Tunky said in his unprepared speech at
\nthe ceremony at his office here.<\/p>\n
President Soeharto merged the former ministries of trade and
\nindustry by decree early last month with the aim of improving
\ncoordination for Indonesia's preparations to face trade
\nliberalization and industrial globalization.<\/p>\n
Under another decree, the President also streamlined the
\nnewly-merged Ministry of Industry and Trade into 11 first-echelon
\ndepartments, consisting of five directorate generals, four
\nagencies, one secretariat general and one inspectorate general.<\/p>\n
The directorate generals are in charge respectively of
\nagricultural and forestry industry; light industry; metal,
\nmachinery and chemical industry; domestic trade; and
\ninternational trade.<\/p>\n
The four agencies consist of the Small Industry Development
\nBoard, the National Agency for Export Development, the Agency for
\nIndustry and Trade Development and Research as well as the
\nIndonesian Commodity Exchange Executive Agency.<\/p>\n
Tunky yesterday installed Aidil Juzar, a former chief of the
\nAgency for Industry research and Development, as secretary
\ngeneral.<\/p>\n
Anang Fuad Rivai was installed as Director General for
\nInternational Trade, Djoko Moeljono as Director General for
\nDomestic Trade, Firdaus Ali as Director General of Light
\nIndustry, Effendi Sudarsono as Director General of Basic Metal,
\nMachinery and Chemical Industries and Sujata as Director General
\nof Agricultural and Forestry Product Industries.<\/p>\n
Rosediana Suharto was assigned as chief of the Agency for
\nIndustry and Trade Development and Research, while Atih Surjati
\nHerman was reappointed to head the Small Industry Development
\nBoard.<\/p>\n
Zulkifli Siregar was installed as chairman of the National
\nAgency for Export Development, Arifin Lumban Gaol as chairman of
\nthe Indonesian Commodity Exchange Executive Agency and R. Pramono
\nas the ministry's inspector general.<\/p>\n
Anang Lukmana and Tommy Poedjhiar were appointed as expert
\nassistants to the minister of industry and trade.<\/p>\n
Anang Lukmana told reporters before the inaugural ceremony
\nthat he was surprised to learn yesterday that he had lost his
\nposition as director general of the agricultural product
\nindustry.<\/p>\n
Saut M.P. Hutauruk, a second echelon official, also
\nacknowledged that he was surprised to be invited to yesterday's
\nceremony without knowing his new position. He was then sworn in
\nas chief of the ministry's data and information center.<\/p>\n
Tunky assured that the decision to appoint the new officials
