        "content": "<p>Tuberculosis rife in West Java<\/p>\n<p>BANDUNG, West Java: An estimated 364,800 people suffering<br>\ntuberculosis across the province badly need medical treatment,<br>\notherwise many more will be infected, a health official warned<br>\nyesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Marwan Awaludin, chairman of the Association for Tuberculosis<br>\nEradication, said medical treatment for patients will cost Rp 36<br>\nbillion (US$17 million).<\/p>\n<p>Awaludin said the high prevalence of contagious tuberculosis<br>\nhas to do with the fact that the bulk of West Java&apos;s 38 million<br>\npopulation have low educational and economic status.<\/p>\n<p>He said sufferers of tuberculosis increased by 96,000 every<br>\nyear.
