Tsunami's agonizing aftermath<\/p>\n

In the tragic aftermath of the vast inestimable devastation of
\nphysical life and property caused by the unfathomable
\nsubterranean forces of nature which exploded as if in revolt
\nagainst widespread terrorism, murder misdeeds and immorality
\namong human beings in this part of the world -- South Asia -- it
\nis opportune to reassess and re-examine the wicked and callous
\nconduct of all of us who are mere earthlings in this planetary
\nconcourse.<\/p>\n
It is generally believed by the older folk that when
\nlawlessness, violence and murder become the order of the day in
\nhuman habitations most of those inhabitants become susceptible to
\npunitive consequences of the inexplicable unseen forces of nature
\naround them.<\/p>\n
It is also said that some of the people who perversely defy
\ntheir religious beliefs and cause intolerable conflict to others
\nof different faiths and wage war against other communities in a
\nmisplaced sense of inferiority or superiority complex and also
\nwhen those in their conceited sense of self arrogance resort to
\nfoul mouthed virulent vindictive utterances and threats against
\nothers who do not subscribe to their views and actions, such
\npeople are prone to suffer some kind of devastation.<\/p>\n
But what is tragical is that it is very often the ordinary
\npoverty stricken people who are seen to be suffering most of the
\nfirst waves of nature's disastrous upheavals. This is a most
\nsaddening feature noticeable in certain happenings.<\/p>\n
In any event, what has happened should be an eye opener for
\nall those criminal careerists including politically vindictive
\naggressors to shun their destructive activities and to restrain
\nand reform themselves to traverse the path of peace and
\nreconciliation with respect and understanding individually and
\ncollectively towards their fellow beings.<\/p>\n
It is heart-rending to observe the mass scale suffering caused
\nto thousands of people including little children not only in the
\nsouth of our land but also in the north east sectors where there
\nis immeasurable trauma and trepidation among all those who were
\nable to save themselves from the massive oceanic onslaught.<\/p>\n
It is a matter for great consolation that the whole nation
\nirrespective of race, creed and political differences --
\nexcepting a few gangs of looters -- had rallied round and risen
\nwholeheartedly in a concerted effort to provide relief and
\nsuccor to the agonized and displaced homeless people to some
\nconsiderable extent.<\/p>\n
Just as our southern sector needs food, clothing and shelter
\nit is equally necessary to provide the needs of those devastated
\nin the north east too.<\/p>\n
This devastation, therefore, amply proves the fact that no
\npart or sector of a country could survive in the face of high
\nvoltage natural calamities without aid and support of the whole
\nnation.<\/p>\n
In the context of the present national disaster that has
\ngravely affected their own community in their isolated territory,
\nit is time that the LTTE leaders and their retinue shun their
\nchauvinistic intransigent attitudes and intentions and integrate
\nfully with the rest of the nation, for their own survival and
\nprotection.<\/p>\n
The selfless services already rendered by our defense forces
\npersonnel in the north east in evacuating and providing safety
\nmeasures to a vast number of tidal wave victims should be greatly
\nappreciated by all concerned.<\/p>\n
Properly directed and coordinated relief measures are urgently
\ncalled for, in utilizing the international financial and material
\naid to rebuild the devastated infrastructure housing, road and
\nrail transportation in both the south and the north east.<\/p>\n
It is undoubtedly a task of the highest magnitude to rebuild
\nthe nation to what it was from the ashes of destruction.<\/p>\n
It is hoped that this national disaster would indicate a
\nsilver lining in the dark clouds -- a form of redeeming feature
\n-- by way of a progressive process towards the much needed --
\nreconciliation.<\/p>\n
Let us hopefully wish that the new year 2005 would usher in a
\npeaceful and prosperous future for our nation and all her people.<\/p>",
