        "content": "<p>The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) for\nTarakan City, North Kalimantan, has officially ended the early tsunami\nwarning for the Tarakan region following a 7.7 magnitude tectonic\nearthquake in Mindanao, Philippines, on Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe early tsunami warning issued this morning at 11:15 WITA has\nofficially been terminated,\u201d stated the Head of BMKG Tarakan, M. Sulam\nKhilmi, on Monday afternoon. With the end of the warning, he noted that\nthe public is permitted to resume their regular activities.<\/p>\n<p>Sulam Khilmi explained that while there was potential for tsunami\nactivity in several areas of North Kalimantan, including Tarakan, the\npredicted wave height was only between 0 to 0.5 metres, specifically\nreaching a maximum of 50 centimetres. He urged the public not to believe\nnews reports claiming high waves had hit the North Kalimantan coast, as\nsuch events did not occur, noting that North Kalimantan is approximately\n200 kilometres away from the earthquake\u2019s epicentre.<\/p>\n<p>He further clarified that while some tsunami waves were recorded in\nparts of East and North Kalimantan, they were at the lowest possible\nlevel. \u201cTsunami waves occur at various levels, and in North Kalimantan,\nit was at the lowest level, under one metre\u2014specifically, only 30\ncentimetres were recorded at Amal Beach,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTherefore, I ask the community not to panic or be afraid, as the\nperiod of crisis has passed. The monitored wave height was only 30\ncentimetres,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The Head of the Tarakan SAR Office, Syahril, stated that following\nthe end of the warning, search and rescue personnel have returned to\ntheir headquarters while remaining on standby. \u201cWe have concluded our\nfield duties and returned to the office. However, we continue to monitor\ndevelopments from BMKG; if there is any new information regarding\nearthquakes or tsunami warnings, we will immediately redeploy to the\nfield,\u201d he said.<\/p>",
