        "content": "<p>Tsunami kills 6,800 workers<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>State employment insurance fund PT Jamsostek has allocated more<br>\nthan Rp 100 billion (US$10.5 million) in compensation to the<br>\nfamilies of 6,800 workers killed by last month's tsunami in Aceh.<\/p>\n<p>Jamsostek president Achmad Djunaidi said Jamsostek had already<br>\npaid compensation to the relatives of more than 3,000 workers<br>\nkilled in the province.<\/p>\n<p>\"We are still making a database of the relatives of the<br>\nremaining 3,800 workers so that the rest of the compensation can<br>\nbe paid as soon as possible. It is our obligation to pay the<br>\nmoney as quickly as we can to help the victims' families,\" he<br>\nsaid, after attending a ceremony where three ambulances were<br>\ngiven to the Indonesian Red Cross and military here on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The ambulances will ferry victims to Red Cross and Army field<br>\nhospitals in Banda Aceh.<\/p>\n<p>Djunaidi said Jamsostek had to pay compensation to more than<br>\n3,000 workers of cement factory PT Semen Andalas who were killed<br>\nby the tsunami while at their workplace. Thousands of other<br>\nworkers in companies covered by Jamsostek, including those in PT<br>\nPupuk Iskandar Muda, state oil and gas firm PT Pertamina's<br>\noffices in Lhokseumawe and pulp mill PT Kertas Aceh in North<br>\nAceh, also lost their lives in the disaster.<\/p>\n<p>\"Besides paying the insurance compensation, Jamsostek has also<br>\ndonated Rp 4 million in cash to the Aceh provincial<br>\nadministration, and dispatched more than 1,500 body bags, along<br>\nwith nine units of tents, food and medical aid to Aceh and Nias,\"<br>\nhe said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, State Minister of State Enterprises Sugiharto<br>\npraised Jamsostek's work to help the disaster victims, especially<br>\nworkers and their relatives.<\/p>\n<p>\"Jamsostek has set a good example. Other state enterprises<br>\nsuch as Pertamina, PLN and state plantations should take similar<br>\nsteps to help the rehabilitation efforts so that the Acehnese can<br>\none again begin to live normal lives,\" he said.<\/p>",
