        "content": "<p>Try opens new school of marine studies<\/p>\n<p>JEPARA, Central Java (JP): Vice President Try Sutrisno<br>\ndedicated the School of Marine Studies of the University of<br>\nDiponegoro here yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The school&apos;s campus, in the Awur Bay Village, cost Rp 8.5<br>\nbillion (US$4 million) to build. The campus includes the main<br>\nbuilding, a laboratory and housing facility for students and<br>\nstaff lecturers.<\/p>\n<p>Diponegoro University is a government-owned institution in<br>\nSemarang, capital of Central Java.<\/p>\n<p>Try, in his dedication speech, said the construction of the<br>\nnew facility is expected to bolster Indonesia&apos;s capability in<br>\nexploiting its rich marine resources, and strengthening the<br>\nnation&apos;s fishing industry in particular.<\/p>\n<p>As the world&apos;s largest archipelagic state, Indonesia possesses<br>\n5.8 million hectares of sea territory, which includes 2.7 million<br>\nhectares that comes within the economic exclusive zone, Try said.<\/p>\n<p>Try&apos;s entourage from Jakarta included Mrs. Try Sutrisno,<br>\nAttorney General Singgih, Minister of Education and Culture<br>\nWardiman Djojonegoro, Minister of Public Works Radinal Moochtar,<br>\nState Minister of Land Affairs Soni Harsono and State Minister of<br>\nEnvironment Sarwono Kusumaatmadja.<\/p>\n<p>Central Java Governor Soewardi and Diponegoro University<br>\nRector Muladi escorted the guests from Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier Try visited a local handicraft center in Jepara, which<br>\nis famed for its woodcarving.<\/p>\n<p>Jepara Regent Bambang Poerwadi said, in his welcoming speech,<br>\nwoodcarving is now the bread and butter industry of the regency,<br>\nwith over 2,400 handicraft units employing a total of 60,000<br>\nworkers.<\/p>\n<p>The area churns out Rp 201 billion ($96 million) worth of<br>\nwooden products, mostly furniture, a year. Its exports are worth<br>\nRp 90 billion a year and its market reaches 29 countries across<br>\nthe globe.<\/p>\n<p>Bambang presented Try with a cane made from three sacred woods<br>\ntaken from the Karimun Jawa Island in the Java Sea across Jepara<br>\nbefore he left Jepara.(har\/emb)<\/p>",
