Try keeps lid on vice presidency<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Vice President Try Sutrisno just smiled
\nyesterday when journalists tried to coax statements out of him
\nabout the possibility of him being reelected the second most
\nsenior official in the administration.<\/p>\n
Try met yesterday with President Soeharto at the Bina Graha
\npresidential office. It was his second visit to Soeharto's office
\nin the past several weeks.<\/p>\n
Before he met Soeharto, Try unexpectedly entered the press
\nroom, adjacent to President Soeharto's working room.<\/p>\n
\"This is a nostalgic visit for me,\" said Try, who celebrates
\nhis 62nd birthday today.<\/p>\n
Try is familiar with the press room. He used to chat with
\njournalists there while serving as Soeharto's adjutant from 1974
\nto 1978.<\/p>\n
Try was coy on the vice presidency saying, \"I just want to
\ngive a brotherly statement\". He did not elaborate.<\/p>\n
Since becoming vice president in 1993 he has rarely given
\nstatements to the press but remains amiable toward them.<\/p>\n
During the press meeting, the retired Army general drew
\nattention to the photos of Soeharto and himself on the wall.<\/p>\n
Pointing to Soeharto's picture, a journalist joked about the
\nvice presidency saying, \"Many people are already queuing for the
\n(vice presidential) position\".<\/p>\n
\"No comment. I am afraid you will make news about this,\" he
\nsaid smiling. After a 15-minute meeting with Soeharto the two
\nleaders walked to Baiturrahim Mosque inside the palace compound
