Try inaugurates Jakarta Fair<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Vice President Try Sutrisno underlined yesterday
\nthe importance of maturity for Indonesia, which has enjoyed its
\nfreedom over the last 50 years.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the opening of the one-month Jakarta Fair, at the
\nKemayoran fair grounds in North Jakarta, the vice president said,
\n\"Within the age of 50 years Indonesia must be mature in
\nanticipating and choosing alternatives in all its actions.<\/p>\n
He said that maturity is badly needed, to answer various
\nchallenges and obstacles, which will grow and be more complicated
\nin the 21st century.<\/p>\n
Challenges and obstacles will not only be found in the
\neconomic field but also in various aspects of the nation's
\noperations, he said, adding that such conditions requires each
\nIndonesian citizen to have his or her own private and national
\nprotection.<\/p>\n
He expressed confidence that having such protection will
\nenable Indonesia to have a high level of competitive edge.<\/p>\n
According to the vice president, the current global
\ncompetition requires improvement of products with a high
\ncompetitive edge, in the areas of quality, variety, practicality
\nand smooth distribution.<\/p>\n
He reiterated the importance of productivity, which has to be
\nsupported by the capability to search for market opportunities
\namid increasing competition.<\/p>\n
The vice president said businessmen are required to be
\naggressive, self-reliant and smart in continuously monitoring
\neconomic development.<\/p>\n
To meet the requirement needs, adequate availability of
\ninformation, both about their own products and those manufactured
\nby their competitors, are needed, he said, adding that the
\nJakarta Fair event constitutes the most appropriate medium to
\nimprove the promotion activities.<\/p>\n
The opening ceremony, which was attended by a number of
\nministers and representatives of the diplomatic corps, was
\nhighlighted by traditional art performances.<\/p>\n
According to the organizing committee, this year's event has
\nits own distinction, namely that people over 60 years old are
\nallowed to enter the fair ground free of charge. Normal entrance
\nfee is set at Rp 1,500 (US$0.68). (hhr)<\/p>",
