United States (US) President Donald Trump has asserted that Russian\nPresident Vladimir Putin \u2018will not attack\u2019 NATO alliance territory.\nTrump\u2019s assertion brushed aside media reports suggesting Washington is\nconcerned about a possible move by Moscow against Europe.<\/p>\n
\u2018I have had good talks with him (Putin). He will not attack NATO\nterritory,\u2019 Trump told reporters in the Oval Office of the White House,\nas reported by AFP on Friday (28\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
Trump\u2019s assertion came in response to a reporter\u2019s question about\nwhether the Russian President had agreed not to launch an attack on\nNATO.<\/p>\n
It was delivered two days after US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)\nDirector John Ratcliffe flew to Moscow, the Russian capital, for\nimpromptu talks with Russian officials, reportedly aimed at warning\nMoscow not to attack the NATO alliance.<\/p>\n
Reports by leading US media outlets, such as the Wall Street Journal\n(WSJ) and CBC News, said Ratcliffe was seeking to prevent Russia from\nattacking NATO amid US intelligence assessments that Moscow may intend\nto test the military alliance as tensions rise over the Ukraine war.<\/p>\n
The WSJ reported that Putin could test NATO through a \u2018limited\nattack\u2019 within the next few years.<\/p>\n
Asked to confirm media reports about Ratcliffe\u2019s quiet visit to\nMoscow, Trump replied: \u2018I don\u2019t want to comment on that, but they will\nnot attack.\u2019<\/p>\n
Ratcliffe\u2019s visit was the first by a CIA Director to the Russian\ncapital since 2021.<\/p>\n
Trump himself last spoke by telephone with Putin in June. The last\nface-to-face meeting between the two leaders took place a year ago, at a\nsummit in Alaska that failed to produce a breakthrough on the Ukraine\nissue.<\/p>\n
In remarks to reporters, Trump also sought to play down the\npossibility of sanctions on Russia for trading with Iran, which was hit\nwith fresh sanctions in the latest \u2018Economic D-Day\u2019 operation if it\nrefuses to open the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
Trump, when announcing the latest US economic operation against Iran\nrecently, also warned that countries supporting Tehran would feel the\nconsequences as well.<\/p>\n
